The Calendar of tulip cultivation
I wrote this chapter to facilitate cultivation of tulips for the beginners. I described there what kinds of works are to be done in a given month, and provided appropriate links. The chapter serves also as a kind of table of contents for the whole site.September - preparing the ground for tulip cultivation. In case of a light soil it will be best to add compost while heavy soil requires sand. More about it in the chapter Requirements See more in 'Requirements'.
October - we plant the tulips at the beginning of the month - 'Planting', and do the first composting. Now we can use first not organic fertilizer.
November - February - wintering of bulbs.
March - April - fertilizing (the green bud). Possibly covering of early tops with a layer of peat in case of big frosts.
May - shortly before flowering of given varieties, trimming of plants after withering - cutting of tops.
June - July - digging out of bulbs, segragating, cleaning and reproducing them.
August - Septemer - storing of bulbs, best in the temperature app. 20 degrees C.
