Planting of tulip bulbs
The best time for this activity is at the turn of September. The buds should be well rooted before winter. Badly rooted plants are likely to badly flower, might even not flower at all, and their capacities for propagation would also diminish. Before planting the bulbs are treated with fungicidal preparations. The most popular is KAPTAN 50 WP, which protects against eg. fusarise. We can also apply biological agents such as BIOSEPT (grapefruit) from BIOCZOS (garlic) (polish names).
The professional Dutch mixture contains Captan 50 WP (1,5%), Sportak 450 EC (0,2%) and Altima 500 SC (0,2%). The last two preparations are available in large bottles only, which means that the mixture is too expensive for hobby growers.
Large bulbs are planted at the depth of 10 cm in heavy soils, and 13 cm in light soils. Small, just propagated bulbs, respectively, at depths of 5 and 8 cm. When planting in rows, there should be no more than 15 large bulbs per 1m.
